PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — Two Pennsylvania Turnpike workers are being celebrated after helping save two lives after a car crash.
Ralph Valenteen, a safety patrol officer, and Lucy Calancea, an equipment operator, both work out of the Devault Maintenance Facility near Philadelphia. As Calancea was working, preparing for a winter storm several weeks ago, she heard a loud crash and drove towards it. At the same time, Valenteen heard a radio call about a car hitting a tree and also raced to the scene. As they both arrived, the car was seen engulfed in flames.
Drivers who had witnessed the crash, according to the PA Turnpike, had already pulled over, dragging two women out of the car. Valeteen and Calancea ran to assist, comforting the victims and moving them far away from the burning car.

Just moments later, the car exploded with flames reaching where both women had just been lying.
Both Valenteen and Calancea waited with the women until medical services could arrive, who went on to survive the crash.
PA Turnpike is heralding both workers as real-life heroes with their quick thinking and courage in helping.
